Neera Arya Warrior of INA and First Woman
Who is Neera Arya, An Unsung Warrior of INA and First Woman Spy Whose Bravery Inspired a Biopic.
Through India’s battle for freedom, there arise various names to whom we owe our freedom.
Neera Arya, who is more well-known for her role as the first female spies in the Indian National Army, is one such significant name.
Thanks to a biopic directed by Roopa Iyer in Kannada, more than seven decades later, the world will now be aware of the bravery of the woman who chose to lead a life that was not typical and give everything she had to the nation.
Here is the heroic existence of Neera Arya and how she tracked down a spot ever in history.
On 5 March 1902 in Khekra Nagar in Baghpat district, Neera Arya was born into a compelling family. Her dad Seth Chhajjumal, a popular money manager, made sure that his kids Neera and Basant got schooling in Kolkata.
Since early on, Neera was very keen on the country’s government assistance and, following school, joined the Rani Jhansi Regiment in the Azad Hind Fauj as a soldier.
Neera’s father before long found a reasonable counterpart for his girl in British Army Official Srikant Jai Ranjan Das who, at that point, was posted as CID Inspector in India.
Because the couple held opposing views and belonged to opposing parties, this quickly became a source of contention. In an effort to locate the leader, Shrikant began questioning Neera about her involvement in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Army as soon as he learned of Neera’s involvement.
Neera didn’t yield, yet Shrikant continued.
Shrikant followed Neera and opened fire on her one fateful day after she had met Bose to discuss important issues. He also shot at Bose’s driver.
Shrikant was stabbed to death by Neera, who was aware of what was going to happen next right away and saved Bose. She received a sentence from the British government to spend time in the Andaman and Nicobar cellular jail for this offense.
However, her nationalism did not end there.
Neera was bribed into revealing information about INC leaders, particularly Subhash Chandra Bose, in exchange for bail while she was in jail.
In any case, she denied this and even disagreement at a jail monitor once.
Further historical accounts claim that Neera’s breasts were severed while she was in prison for refusing to discuss the freedom struggle and its leaders.
Notwithstanding the torment, Neera stayed faithful to the country and proceeded to turn into the primary woman spy of the Azad Hind Fauj, a title and responsibility that were presented to her by Bose himself.
According to portions of her writing, “I had a girl with me, Saraswati Rajamani.” She was more youthful than me and was from Burma. She and I were given the responsibility of keeping an eye on the British officers. We took on the costumes of boys. We kept an eye on the homes of English officials and military camps. We used to give Netaji the information we got from here.
Subsequently, Neera helped the INA essentially through her efforts. It is said that she sold flowers for a living in her last few years of life.
After spending this time in a hut in the Falaknuma area of Hyderabad, she breathed her last on 26 July 1998 at Osmania Hospital near Charminar.
