Writing Hope, Changing Lives – The Story of Pushpa Preeya

Pushpa Preeya, also known as Pushpa NM or Pushpa N. M., is an Indian IT professional, volunteer, and dedicated exam scribe widely recognized for her selfless service to visually impaired students.

Born and raised in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Pushpa comes from a humble background and faced financial hardships from an early age. Despite numerous challenges, she and her brother worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles and build a better future for themselves.

Pushpa began her journey as an exam scribe in 2007 after being inspired by a friend to support people with disabilities. Responding to requests from several NGOs, she started assisting visually impaired students by writing examinations on their behalf. What began as a small act of service soon became a lifelong mission dedicated to empowering students through education.

Alongside her volunteer work, Pushpa completed a Diploma in Computer Science and continues to pursue higher education through the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

By 2019, Pushpa had written more than 1,000 examinations for visually impaired individuals, earning widespread appreciation for her remarkable contribution to society. In addition to her educational support initiatives, she also manages a Facebook community page that helps connect blood donors with those in need.

In recognition of her outstanding social service and dedication, Pushpa Preeya was honored with the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar 2018, India’s highest civilian award for women, presented by former President Ram Nath Kovind on March 8, 2019, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
